SA-8 All dressed up and nowhere to go

I woke up at 3am and listened to wild wild winds howling outside.  I even got up to check my emails to see if it was cancelled.  Stuart and I discussed how we would manage to get through, by riding when we could and walking the bits where the gusts were too strong.

At breakfast we heard the disappointing news that the ride was cancelled.  We were all gutted, but when we saw some of the video clips on social media of people getting blown across the road we knew the right decision had been made.

It felt really strange to be all kitted out with race numbers on and having nowhere to go

Despite everyone being so disappointed there was still a lot of chat and laughter around the breakfast table.

The Exodus team decided to put on a braai for us (BBQ) which was lovely, so we spent the afternoon at a delightful villa with a pool.  There were two exodus groups at the braai, and it turned out that the other trip was led by Andy Ross who was the group leader on the Vietnam holiday where Stuart and I met.  It was great spending time catching up with Andy.  We then discovered that bizarrely one of the participants on the other trip, Peter,  had been our tour guide on a canoe trip down the Zambezi.  Small world!

You wait for one tour leader and then three turn up at once!

A lot of the chat at the braai was about the possibility of doing this trip again as we were all so disappointed not to be able to do the big ride today.  It would be absolutely fabulous if we could get this whole group together again next year, because the group got on so well that this holiday has been an absolute pleasure!
