Breakfast is taken on the terrace of the hotel which overlooks the sea. This is a whale watching area, but unfortunately not the season for it.
We set off from the hotel through the town and along a fairly busy noisy highway for 20km, not my favourite part of the ride.
Fortunately, we turn off onto a quieter road and then it is another 12km to a lovely coffee stop.
And this coffee bar has probably my favourite cafe sign ever
We are told we are going to finish the ride before lunch and there is another 50km to ride. This seems quite a challenge, but I didn't realise how much of a challenge until the next water break.
It is sizzling hot today and although the Garmin says over 40 deg when we stop for a drink, this is probably because we were stationary. It does remain around 38 deg as we cycle the final section of the ride.
However, this part of the ride along the coast is so spectacular and gorgeous even the searing heat doesn't spoil it
When we stop for lunch around 2ish we have ridden over 80km (50 miles), which is quite an achievement in this heat.
We then transfer back to the Sweetest Guest houses in Cape Town, where I am now hot, tired and grumpy and have a bit of a sense of humour failure when we are allocated our room.
I don't have many requirements for hotel rooms, mainly just clean and secure. However, I now feel I have to add a further requirement - that there should be a door on the bathroom!
