CB1 - Where?

Hurrah, it's time for our summer holibobs!  But in a spectacular frenzy of busyness (work related) I haven't packed a single thing, read the trip notes or even had time to anticipate the holiday.  By Friday evening 8.30 pm I'm still working, and we need to get up at 4.30 in the morning.  A desperate late night pack ensues.

When we get to Gatwick we check in for a flight to Riga.  We are booked on Exodus - Cycling the Baltics trip.  I know that Riga is not in Estonia, Tallin is the headline city for Estonia, and then I realise I haven't a clue which country Riga is in.  I should be ashamed at my spectacular lack of geographical knowledge, but secretly I'm quite excited at the thought of getting on a plane and not knowing what country I am going to land in.  It's 50/50 Latvia or Lithuania and no I'm not going to tell you which!  Mock my ignorance?!  Now Google!

We are so early at Gatwick airport we haven't had breakfast yet.  We head to the food court and the horrors of travelling via a UK airport in the August holidays.  However, we discover to our delight that Wagamas has started serving breakfasts!  The dishes are a really weird western/Japanese fusion mix, which somehow work.

There is a Wagama's in St Albans and I suspect that on a rainy Sunday morning I may be tempted to divert from a VCC ride to brunch.  Sadly, I discover that Wagamas only serve breakfasts in their airport branches.  No rainy get out clause for me.

When we get to Riga we have a 4 hour layover, hence an early start on the blog. It is a strangely quiet airport after Gatwick, so much so that Riga Mortis sets in!

Finally, we make it to Tallin, only a couple of the group arrive with us and there is a note for us at the hotel.

Seems like the trip isn't going to kick off until tomorrow.  Still we manage to spend a very pleasant evening in Tallin.  Launch straight into the local cuisine with Baltic Herring, really tasty.
