First, however, we need to fuel up so that there are no more bonks.
Our goal today is to source various local products, so that we can make our own supper rather than having to drive to a restaurant in the evening. Lovely as the Chateau is, it feels very isolated. I know that I could not live here. (Wealth issues aside).
The Chateau is run by a Dutch couple, so I am delighted to find that I can make my favourite snack at breakfast time.
A Dutch lady visited my infants school and introduced us all to Hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles). I'm possibly the only one who fell in love with this snack and had it nearly every day in my sandwiches for school lunch.
The route runs mainly alongside the Loire river, so a lovely flat ride, with a tailwind for most of the ride out.
Occasionally, the signs direct us away from the river taking us at one point right through some unusual caves...
.. at other times, we are cycling through vineyards...
.. but we are never far from a pretty church or chateau
Finally, just before 2pm, Stuart is getting very hungry (he should have had the Hagelslag).
At Montsoreau, Stuart discovers a delightful restaurant at Hotel de Bussy. He heads straight inside and refuses to come out ( most unlike Stuart!), but this is a great call.
We have a great meal, and the views are fantastic.
The afternoon ride home is much more serious! We have to find our supper! We decide to buy only things that are Artisanal. Turns out that is pretty much anything that is for sale around here. The wine is of course the first purchase!
The baguette proved a little challenging to carry home.
But in the end we rewarded ourselves with a very fine supper! (After 58 miles cycling, I think that we had earned it!)
